How Do I Keep My Skin Hydrated In The Winter?

on Tuesday, 20 January 2015. Posted in Dermaspa Blog

The winter months can leave your skin feeling dehydrated, tight and lacking that glow factor. There are many easy ways to avoid this issue and improve your skin!

 1) Turn down your water temperature!

Using water that is too hot can remove your skin’s natural oils. This leaves the skin exposed and unprotected against the harsh winter weather.

After washing follow the “3 minute rule”: Pat skin dry, and liberally apply moisturizer while your skin is still damp. This is a good rule to follow after baths and showers.

 2) Treat Yourself To A Relaxing Hydrating Facial…

A hydrating facial will nourish, rehydrate and replenish your skin with nutrients, vitamins and antioxidants. It will leave your skin glowing, hydrated and detoxified!  Adding a microdermabrasion treatment to your facial can boost your results by removing dead skin cell layers, and improving skin treatment penetration.

  1. 3) Choose a hydrating moisturizer for your skin type…

Whether you suffer from severely dry skin, acne, rosacea or combination skin there’s always a suitable moisturizer for you! Those who suffer from acne still need to be sure to protect the skin with a moisturizer. Alyria offers a safe facial moisturizer, the “Oil Free Hydrating Lotion” which is suitable for acne type skin and won’t clog the pores. For those of you with very dry skin, without breakouts Alyria offers a creamy moisturizer called “Hydrating Complex”. It will help to hydrate, eliminate dry, itchy and tight skin leaving the skin soft. There are many options when it comes to moisturizers and it is important to always use something with SPF or follow with a SPF on the face, even in the winter months!

 4) Boost radiance with an exfoliating peel…

An exfoliating or chemical peel is a great way to remove dead skin cells that may make the skin appear dry, flaky or unbalanced.

It is important to have a peel done by a medical esthetician as they are professionals and will choose the appropriate peel for you. Peels are available to be customized to your skin type such as:

  • Anti-aging Peel (treats fine lines, dehydrated skin and sun damaged skin)
  • Acne Peel
  • Oily Skin Peel
  • Combination Skin Peel
  • Pore Cleansing Peel (to remove blackheads, reduce the appearance of pore size etc.)
  • Skin Smoothing Peel (treats rough dry skin)

Following your peel the medical esthetician will apply a hydrating moisturizer suitable to your skin type. Your skin is left feeling smooth, balanced and glowing!
