Do I need a Doctor's letter to get covered by my insurance plan for my massage therapy treatments?

Maybe.  Some insurance companies will require you to get a letter from your family physician or a walk in clinic to get reimbursed for your massage therapy costs.  Contact your insurance company to find out what they require to provide coverage for massage therapy, and what amount you are covered for yearly.

Don't forget:  many insurance plans require you to use the full amount by year end and will not allow you to carry over the amount into the next calendar year.  Finding out about your insurance benefits will allow you to make the best use of your massage therapy coverage and achieve optimal health benefits.

What types of Massage Therapy do DermaSpa Massage Therapists provide?

Our RMTs are trained and experienced in providing many types of massage therapy, and can combine various types within one session. An assessment with your RMT is included in your treatment, and together you will determine the most suitable treatment(s) for you.

Should I book a 30 minute, 60 minute or 90 minute massage therapy session?

The average full-body massage session lasts approximately one hour.

At the initial appointment your massage therapist will perform an assessment of your health and muscular/joint issues. This will help to determine the best treatment for you, and a customized treatment plan will be developed just for you.

A half-hour appointment only allows time for a partial massage session, such as neck and shoulders, back or legs and feet. Many people prefer a 60- to 90-minute session for optimal relaxation.

Where Will My Massage Session Take Place?

Your Massage Therapy session will take place at DermaSpa, where we seek to provide you with a relaxed, comfortable experience in a luxurious, calming environment.

Your treatment will take place in a warm, comfortable, quiet room. Soft music may be played to help you relax. You will lie on a massage therapy table cloaked in luxurious linens and especially designed for your comfort.
You may choose to add on options such as aromatherapy or hot stone treatment for additional comfort and health benefits.

After your massage therapy treatment we invite you to relax in our fireplace lounge with a cup of herbal tea and chocolates.

What do I wear for a massage therapy session?

What you choose to wear to your massage therapy session is up to you!  We do recommend, however, that you wear comfortable clothing.

Do I have to get undressed for my massage therapy treatment?

Most massage and bodywork techniques are traditionally performed with the client unclothed; however, it is entirely up to you what you want to wear. You may undress to your level of comfort; for some this is completely undressed, others leave underwear on.

Our Massage Therapists are properly trained in ensuring your comfort, modesty and privacy, and you will be draped with linens during the entire session.  Other than the body part being massaged, your therapist will ensure you are fully covered at all times.

Will the Practitioner Be Present When I Disrobe?

Our massage therapist will leave the room while you undress, relax onto the table, and cover yourself with a clean sheet and blanket.  We also provide luxurious robes and plush slippers for your comfort.

Will I Be Covered During the Massage Session?

You will be properly draped at all times to keep you warm and comfortable. Only the area being worked on will be exposed.

What Should I Do During the Massage or Bodywork Session?

Prior to the massage, feel free to ask our patient coordinator or your massage therapy practitioner any questions about the technique or the upcoming session. During the massage, make yourself comfortable. The practitioner will either gently move you or tell you what is needed throughout the session (such as lifting your arm). Many people just close their eyes and completely relax.

Our massage therapists welcome feedback throughout the session.  If you have any questions, prefer a different pressure level, or technique, please let them know during the session.

What Parts of My Body Will Be Massaged?

You and the practitioner will discuss the desired outcome of your session. This will determine which parts of your body require massage. A typical full body session will include work on your back, arms, legs, feet, hands, head, neck, and shoulders. You will not be touched in private areas (male/female) or on your breasts (female). Your privacy and preferences will always be respected. If you have any preferences which would make you more comfortable, please advise us and we will be happy to ensure your ultimate comfort.

How Will I Feel After the Massage or Bodywork Session?

Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity. Many people experience a reduction in migraine and headache symptoms and frequency. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity which can last for days. Since toxins are released from your soft tissues during a massage, it is recommended you drink plenty of water following your massage.

How many massage therapy sessions will I require?

After your initial consultation and treatment with the massage therapist, you will be provided with a treatment plan which will help you acheive your goals.  Discuss the treatment plan with your massage therapist at the end of your session to determine how many appointments to book, and how often you should receive treatment.

Getting one massage can have many benefits for your body and mind. Getting massage therapy more frequently can do even more. Taking part in this form of regularly scheduled self-care can improve your overall health, wellbeing, and youthfulness. Budgeting time and money for massage therapy at consistent intervals is a worthwhile and beneficial investment in your health and wellbeing.

Remember:  Even a massage therapy treatment that feels relaxing and pampering can have outstanding health benefits!
